PheNoumenon - Studio Test Audience #2

Description
“Take a long, hard look around us. The chaos and distress in this world is caused by Man’s actions. At times it feels like we are barely surviving in an age that is darker and more troubling than generation. All the more so, we must fight to preserve the dignity and sovereignty of every individual being.”

For his latest creation PheNoumenon, choreographer and artistic director Kuik Swee Boon aims to create a setting that fully immerses audience members into the performance taking place this December, where one has to make choices about his or her place in the space. Therefore, obliterating the safety zones that traditionally separate performer and spectator.

We are inviting 70 members of the public to be a test audience moving in the space for a rehearsal taking place Fri 29 Nov, 7.30-8.30pm at T.H.E's dance studio.

Please note

— Performance officially starts at 7:30pm but audiences can arrive and enter the studio from 7:20pm as there will be a 10-minute pre-show section.
— Audiences may be asked to sit within the performance area and move around, hence they should
a) bring small bags if possible, or leave their large items at the bag check*
b) wear comfortable clothing and pants where possible
c) arrive no later than 7:30pm, as latecomers will not be able to enter during the performance

About PheNoumenon

Look out, look carefully; what do you see?

PheNoumenon is the latest creation by founding artistic director Kuik Swee Boon, this time examining the relationship between Man and the natural phenomenon that surrounds him.

The free spirit tears away from hegemonic thinking - habits, cultures and systems which hide under the illusory cover of a prosperous modern society. Look around, what lessons can be learnt from the socio-political, technological and climate chaos threatening to upend our entire lives?

T.H.E’s finale performance of 2019 is created in collaboration with Singaporean lighting designer Adrian Tan, costume designer Loo An Ni, Malaysian sound artist Kent Lee and six extraordinary dancers from T.H.E Dance Company. If you liked da:ns festival 2018 commission Invisible Habitudes and followed its successful European tour, then you must not miss PheNoumenon!

Look in, look closely; what have we become?
